Slack
Install the Done Bear Slack bot to keep tasks moving from Slack conversations.
Bring Done Bear into Slack so your team can turn conversations into tasks without switching tools.
Overview
Ask @Done Bear to create a task, clarify a thread, or answer Done Bear task questions in a Slack channel, thread, or DM. Done Bear replies in-thread.
Configure
Integration setup
Open Done Bear Settings → Integrations → Slack and choose Add to Slack. A Done Bear workspace owner or admin starts the install, then a Slack workspace admin or app manager approves the app for the Slack workspace. After that, people in the workspace can:
- Ask
@Done Bearto create Done Bear tasks from Slack channels and threads. - DM
@Done Bearto create personal capture tasks or ask about your tasks. - Invite
@Done Bearto private channels before mentioning it there. - Open created tasks from the confirmation reply in Slack.
Connect multiple Slack workspaces
Done Bear is designed for one Slack app with multiple workspace installations. Each Slack workspace installs the same Done Bear Slack app and maps to one Done Bear workspace.
Done Bear Agent For Slack
Mention @Done Bear in a discussion and ask it to create a task. Done Bear uses the Slack thread as context and only creates a task when the message is actually asking for one.
For example:
@Done Bear create a task to follow up with support@Done Bear create a task to review this bug report@Done Bear add a todo for the launch checklist
Slack replies are posted in-thread.
To use @Done Bear in Slack:
- Public channels: mention
@Done Beardirectly. - Private channels: invite the bot first with
/invite @Done Bear. - Direct messages: DM
@Done Bearwith a task request. - Group DMs: invite the bot when creating the group DM.
Create tasks from messages
Mention or DM @Done Bear with a clear task request. The task is created in the Done Bear workspace connected by the installer, and lands in Today unless you name another view or give it a date.
Message actions from Slack's More actions menu are planned, but not available yet.
Sync threads
Thread sync between Slack and Done Bear comments is planned. For now, Done Bear can read the Slack thread when mentioned and create or update tasks from that context.
Notifications
Team, project, and personal Slack notifications are planned. For now, the bot is focused on interactive capture and task lookup.
Try it
After the bot is installed, try:
@Done Bear create a task to review the Slack botSetup Notes For Admins
The Slack app uses Slack OAuth for workspace installation. Done Bear stores an encrypted bot token and maps the Slack workspace to your Done Bear workspace. The Done Bear agent handles Slack messages through the same MCP tools used by the app assistant. Slack-created tasks are attributed to the Done Bear user who installed the integration.
The app needs Slack permissions for app mentions and posting confirmation replies.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Fix |
|---|---|
| The bot does not answer DMs | Reinstall the Slack app after the im:history scope is added. |
| Mentions do not trigger | Invite the bot to the channel, then mention it again. |
| The task appears under another user | Slack-created tasks are attributed to the installer for now. |
